Boris’s Veterinary history

Boris is now 8.

Several years ago he developed diabetes. The reason for this was a mystery, he was young, not overweight and had been apparently quite fit. He remained a very unstable diabetic for a year and had frequent ‘wobbles’ which meant he spent a lot of time at the vets. Fortunately his human had pet insurance and Boris was referred to Wey Referrals for specialist assessment. He had a battery of expensive tests which showed he had pancreatitis (his blood had to be flown to the States for that). His periodic inflamed pancreas was an underlying cause of his diabetes. It also emerged that he had a rather malformed kidney, which was smaller than the other. Fortunately you can lead a normal life on one,as long as it does not go wrong. At the moment his kidney function is satisfactory, although it is quite likely to fail one day. Poor Boris also had a heart murmur and got repeated urine infections, again the heart murmur has improved and his urine infections are now under control.

He has to stick to his diet, have two jabs of insulin a day and be regularly checked. I dont mind, he’s good company.

At the moment Boris seems to enjoy life, although he does have his off days. We are not sure about his life expectancy, but bearing in mind his history he really is a ‘Wondercat’. He enjoys life despite his problems. Many humans could take a leaf out of his book!
